90/366: load
The pile of loot we picked up at The Strand bookstore in Manhattan on Friday. I love browsing there because there's so many books to check out, plus the store is just cool to hang out in. We seem to stop there every time we go up, which is about every other month at this point.
This time, our mission had us going through the $1.00 racks outside the store to find older books with interesting pages for creative projects. I'm thinking of integrating some pages into paintings.

88/366: homeward bound
On the way back from New York earlier tonight and tired as hell. We were kind of far back in line at Port Authority and by the time we got on the bus, the only seat available for us to sit together was the last one in the back. Not the most comfortable, but they were seats.
The day was spent mainly at MoMA and the Red Dot Art Fair. I even met up with a friend I hadn't seen in almost two years. It would have been great to have stayed overnight at a friend's in Brooklyn, but I have to work tomorrow. The trip was short but sweet.

87/366: prep
We're getting some food together to take with us on the bus up to New York tomorrow. We like taking a few things with us so we don't have to spend money since this is only a day trip. We would stay over at a friend's place, but I have to work Sat. and Sun. so we have to return tomorrow night.
The reason we're going is because I have work in the Red Dot Art Fair this weekend. If you happen to be in Manhattan this weekend, stop by the fair and look for the Bridgette Mayer Gallery room to see a few new and recent works by yours truly.
Red Dot is just one of many art fairs all happening this weekend in New York. It's also one of I think three that take place in hotels.

84/366: stare
I'm looking kind of pissed off, but it's actually indifference, or as indifferent as I can manage.
I take no responsibility for the Rococco-esqueness of the mirror. My housemate inherited it from a family member, I think :D

83/366: ben and me
We spent Easter out just walking and enjoying the sunny day. The bridge walkway was open so we took advantage of it to get some photos.
There was quite a lot of glare, so I couldn't really tell what was happening with the focus, hence the sharp bridge tower and a blurry me.

82/366: home again
Just returned from having dinner at my gallerist's place. It was in honor of our wedding and her upcoming wedding to her fiancé of four years.
She cooked an excellent fish (Tilapia), salad and greens dinner. Beforehand, we had appetizers that included a really good sharp but buttery cheddar cheese from England. Not sure what the name of it is, but it was good.
If I look a little unfocused, it's because of the wine...

81/366: ready
I've been mistaken for a bike messenger a few times. Mostly when I've been dressed in my studio clothes and have my big blue bag on, like here.
Once, a couple of summers ago, I was leaving Borders Bookstore at Broad & Chestnut when an older man in an equally old suit approached me. He asked me if I was a messenger and seemed really disappointed when I said no. Another time, a bus driver asked me what company I rode for. Don't know what that was about. There were a couple of other times, but I don't remember the particulars.
I wouldn't make a good mesenger anyway, since I stop at red lights and don't like riding between lanes of moving traffic. I have my moments of taking risks in traffic but generally, I opt for safer riding.
My wife said that it was a good thing that she was already in love with me by the time she saw me dressed like this :D

80/366: golden glow
Catching the evening rays again. The play of light through the apartment is always nice at this time of the evening. Because of the placement of a couple of mirrors, there are usually random reflections around, like the one on the wall to the right.
Happy spring, everyone!

79/366: something funny in the air
I've been feeling a bit loopy today due to a need for sleep and looking forward to a week off from work.
I've been working extra hours for a co-worker whose mother died recently, but he'll be returning this week. I'm taking a couple of personal days next week to recover and catch up on some home and studio stuff. All of this means that, with the exception of a few hours working on Monday, I won't have to be back to work until the 29th.

76/366: working(?)
Found this book by Studs Terkel in the rag-tag library in the break room at work.
Working was published in the early '70's and holds the oral histories of people who were seldom heard from in those days: waitresses, utility workers, newsboys, etc...According to Wikipedia: It is an exploration of what makes work meaningful for people in all walks of life: from Lovin' Al the parking valet, to Dolores the waitress, from the fireman to the business executive, the narratives move constantly between mundane details, emotional truths and existential questioning.
I'm looking forward to reading how some people felt about their jobs three decades ago. I wonder if there's something similar that addresses the same thing only from a contemporary view. There have been a lot of changes in the types of jobs people have now and, of course, economic and social differences. Then again, I'm sure there are a ton of similarities.

74/366: quickie
A late, quick meal to fill my belly. I visited the studio of a fellow painter earlier in the evening. As is often the case when two painters get together, the conversation keeps going and going and going...
Painting, much like writing, is a solitary and usually isolated endeavor. So, when you've been stuck in the studio for a long period, having the chance to talk with another artist about what you're working on can be a great way to break up the routine and get an objective perspective about what you're doing.

Me and something with a lot of green on the wall. Having fun in the studio. Trying out a lot of new things and pushing the chromatic aspect of my work a little these days.

71/366: "um-hmmm..."
Taking advantage of a torn neckline. At a glance, I was questioning if I'd suddenly grown a mustache when I looked at a smaller size of this image.
For the most part, I don't even like my facial hair. I let it grow in a little when I'm off from work. I go back and forth with how I look with it. My chin hair grows pretty fast. I've stopped counting how many gray hairs there are on it. I still won't let them grow in because I think the gray makes me look too old.

70/366: cake for two
We didn't have cake to celebrate our six months of marriage on Friday, but we enjoyed some tonight.
It's white chocolate raspberry mousse cake from the Pink Rose Pastry Shop. This was the same cake we had as our wedding cake. Very good. It's become our default special celebration cake.

66/366: ...
So much for 'Expressions' week. I've not been into it so I may as well end the misery. The idea was good in theory, but this just wasn't the week to do what I thought I'd achieve.
I've not been feeling my best and most of the time that I've gotten in front of the camera, the best I could do was 'slightly pissed' and 'blank'. Not exactly the range of expressions I'd hoped to explore. I couldn't overcome how I actually felt in order to pull it off I couldn't channel the right energy to get there.

Actually, I've been feeling like this all day. I've been fighting off somethinhg lately which also made me feel out of it. There were the stirrings of a sore throat, but I've been able to keep it at bay.
